Welcome to Creative Closeup, an ongoing series where we spend time with inspiring women learning about their creative practices and the spaces they inhabit.
This month we traveled to LA to visit with multi-hyphenate creative Mia Moretti, who is a DJ and poet, and spent time with her in her beautiful home. With several published volumes of poetry and high-profile DJ jobs taking her from Hollywood to fashion events around the globe, Mia is as recognized by her sophisticated style as her creative talent. Step inside her intimate home for some inspiration and a peek inside her world.
Q: How would you characterize what you do professionally?
A: I think of myself as a story collector and a story dispenser. I share those stories sometimes through songs, sometimes through poems.
Q: The DJ controls the mood of an event. How does that influence your style?
A: I never know the mood of an event until I get there, but I do always try to shake whatever my day was off me before I go to work. I don’t want to bring in that energy. I want to be able to absorb and reflect the energy that is there in the room.
Q: How would you describe your style?
Q: What is it about Merlette that appeals to you?
Q: How have you styled your Merlette pieces?
A: To live in
Q: As a female creative, what does it mean to you to support female founded brands?
A: It means we will survive.
Q: When you aren’t DJ’ing, where do you do your creative work?
A: In my home
Q: What is your greatest source of inspiration?
A: The world.
