Judy Kam’s US Open Style Edit

This season, content creator and former NYU tennis player Judy Kam brought her signature style to the US Open, styling Merlette pieces that perfectly balanced elegance and ease. From airy dresses to elevated separates, each look captured the energy of New York City and the excitement of the tournament.

Judy’s curated outfits highlighted the versatility of Merlette — designed for movement, comfort, and timeless sophistication off the court.

How did you approach styling for the US Open?

For me, the US Open is the perfect balance of sport and style. I wanted outfits that felt chic but still had a sporty edge, whether it was through sneakers, relaxed silhouettes, or pops of tennis-inspired colors and accessories like blue, yellow, and green.

What makes Merlette feel like the right choice for the tournament?

Merlette feels effortless yet elevated, which is exactly what I look for during the tournament. Their pieces make me feel stylish but not too dressed up. It is made for the busy, on-the-go woman who might be going to the US Open straight from work and then have dinner plans with friends after.

Do you plan your looks ahead of time, or decide day by day?

I definitely decide day by day. It depends on the weather, how I am feeling that morning, and what centerpiece I am gravitating toward. I will plan the outfit around the one piece that feels right.

How do you navigate the summer heat while staying stylish?

I focus on breathable natural fabrics and flowy silhouettes. Accessories also do a lot of heavy lifting, like sunglasses, a great bag, and interesting shoes.

Was there a Merlette piece this year that you particularly adored wearing?

Yes, the Verena Dress for sure. My signature silhouette is a cinched waist, so this was the obvious choice. I also love the contrast stitching and pleating. The quality is amazing.

Which match or moment stood out to you the most?

Watching Taylor Townsend beat Mirra Andreeva was pretty exciting. Obviously Djokovic too, since it somehow feels like it might be his last US Open, which made it extra special. Oh, and so happy for Naomi Osaka's comeback!

What is it about the US Open and New York that makes it so distinctive for fashion?

The US Open is less formal than the other Grand Slams, so there is room to experiment. You see everything from polished dresses with heels to bold, sporty looks. And because it is New York, people are not afraid to take risks. I also love that it happens right before Fashion Week, so the city already has this incredible energy around style and creativity.

As a former NYU player, do you have a personal ritual or charm that keeps you connected to tennis, both past and present?

During my competitive years I did not have many rituals, except I always picked Up or W when spinning the racquet for sides and I always served first if I won the toss. Nowadays I wear a little tennis racket charm bracelet that I love. Reconnecting with tennis through coaching my boyfriend and occasionally playing in the Brooklyn community has been so meaningful!
