Styling Session with Akane Shinozaki

Akane Shinozaki is a buyer at Ron Herman Japan with a thoughtful, intuitive approach to style. While in Paris, she styled Collection 22, offering a nuanced perspective shaped by Japanese sensibility and the women who embody it. Always in motion, Akane shares how she wears the collection in her fast-paced, on-the-go life—expressing herself through clothing as she moves between roles and cities, choosing pieces that travel with intention, adapt to each moment, and are meant to be loved, understood, and worn for years to come.

1. How do you express your signature style through freedom and a life on the move?

As a buyer, I wear one hat while at home, I wear two hats as a mother and a wife. Moving between these multiple roles every single day, the only way I can truly express myself is through my outfit.  As I visit so many different countries and cities, what I choose changes naturally. In India, I gravitate toward uplifting colors. In Paris, I lean toward a slightly edgy, fashion-forward look. In LA’s pleasant atmosphere, I opt for vintage denim and jackets.

2. Where did you imagine traveling while experiencing these looks?

For me, Merlette and traveling are really inseparable. I was just packing for my upcoming business trip to Paris the other day. For slightly more formal occasions in a showroom, I would wear a dress. For meeting at a café, I would wear a matching top and long, striped skirt. And for a relaxed dinner, I would wear a floral printed blouse with denim.

3. How would you describe the spirit of Japanese style and the women who embody it?

Japanese women truly love fashion, I believe. I think they are good at cherishing each item, loving it for a long time, and enjoying it through various styling approaches. They don’t just chase trends, but also find ways to dress themselves through their own interpretations.

4. How does that sensibility influence how you style and curate collections?

I have a long-term relationship with each piece of clothing. This is why the important thing for me is to see if it aligns with my values, from the quality of fabrics and comfort to wear, to production background and the craftsmanship.

5. What new evolutions in style are you most excited about for 2026?

My first Merlette dress I bought 10 years ago was the CHAOUEN. It’s a long white dress with a drop waist. I still remember the name clearly, because it’s the name of a city in Morocco which I actually visited when I was a college student.
