While denim is the backbone of many women’s wardrobes, it can also be notoriously difficult to produce in a sustainable fashion. Creative director Marina Cortbawi not only wanted the fit and feel of Merlette’s latest denim capsule to be perfect, she also wanted to approach the pieces’ production in a way that reduces environmental impact. And because it is Merlette, each piece has unique details and meticulous attention to how it complements a woman’s body.
To start with, all the denim in the collection is GOTS-certified, which is the leading textile processing standard for organic fibers. The medium blue wash, which is a signature of the line, was achieved using an ozone wash, which has a gentler footprint.
All of this layers on top of the work the design team puts into creating pieces, like the BEACON jeans, that you won’t find anywhere else. Inspired by vintage jeans from the ‘70s, it took over six months to perfect the cut of these straight-leg bottoms.
“Our denim collection is all about love, care, and sustainability. Each piece carries the essence of who we are—a brand that embraces design with thoughtfulness at every level.” – Marina Cortbawi
