Merlette x Riku Matsuzaki: Signature Icons Reimagined in Living Indigo

To celebrate a decade of Merlette, we have repurposed three of our most poetic silhouettes—the SOLIMAN Dress, the SOL Top, and the PARADIS Dress—transforming archival treasures into a limited-edition collection of wearable art.
A Dialogue of Hand and Earth
In a rare and soulful collaboration, each garment served as a canvas for dyeing master Riku Matsuzaki. Using the delicate, ancient art of beeswax-resist—where melted wax from native honeybees is used to paint and protect the fabric—Riku captures the movement of a hidden universe. Because this artistry relies on the gentle movement of living microbes and the precision of the artist’s hand, no two pieces are identical.

The Living Blue
Rooted in the ancient soul of Kyoto, this collection returns to the purest essentials: natural fermentation, wood ash, and homegrown indigo. Riku’s process revives a lost, historic indigo tradition, resulting in a deep, celestial blue that does not bleed. Instead, the color is designed to breathe—growing richer, softer, and more personal as it lives alongside you

"Our studio revives a lost indigo era, drawing from plant-based color traditions that have long supported both art and everyday life." — Riku Matsuzaki

A Timeless Metamorphosis
Beyond the technical mastery, this project is a meditative exploration of life and form. By physically transforming these existing garments through his artisanal process, Riku proves that a beautifully cut piece is never finished—it simply evolves. These pieces offer a relaxed, organic ease, capturing the "warmth" of a color that is truly alive.
